Man who struck dog on the head until it died arrested

The Animal Welfare Investigations Project (AWIP) confirms that investigators have identified and detained a suspect in a deeply disturbing case of animal cruelty in the Philippines. The suspect, identified as John Mark “TanTan” Gallardo Mabunga of Masbate, is awaiting court proceedings for alleged violations of the Animal Welfare Act.

According to AWIP, the suspect tied a dog with wire and repeatedly struck the animal on the head with a wooden object, causing the dog’s death. The cruelty was recorded on video and posted on social media, prompting an immediate, intelligence-led investigation.

“After a 72-hour manhunt, our team located the suspect,” said AWIP in an operational statement. “During a joint operation with the Philippine National Police, he attempted to flee. He has since confessed to the crime.”

AWIP Chief Executive Officer Jacob Lloyd added: “If you harm animals, I’ll make sure my team finds you and that you’re brought to justice. We will continue to work closely with authorities to ensure this case is prosecuted and that the animal receives the justice it deserves.”
