The Animal Welfare Investigations Project (AWIP), working alongside the Philippine National Police (PNP), has executed a successful raid targeting the illegal dog meat trade in Pangasinan. Officers rescued a dog moments before it was to be slaughtered and arrested a 30-year-old male suspect at the site.
This action follows a major enforcement operation carried out just over two weeks ago, underlining the continuing pressure on networks involved in this cruel trade.
“With every operation, we hit these networks harder. Every dog rescued and every arrest pushes this criminal trade closer to its end. The dog meat trade is failing and its days are numbered,”
– Jacob Lloyd, CEO of Animal Welfare Investigations Project
AWIP investigators developed credible intelligence indicating an imminent slaughter at the location. PNP units promptly moved in on this intelligence, secured the scene, rescued the dog, and detained the suspect. Evidence was recovered that will support ongoing case development.
As a result of sustained joint enforcement activity, the dog meat trade in the Philippines continues to shrink, with fewer networks operating. AWIP remain committed to maintaining this pressure until the trade is dismantled entirely.
