Jacob Lloyd – Personal Profile

This blog article, authored by Jacob and published by Animal Welfare Investigations Project Limited, offers an engaging profile of Jacob Lloyd, detailing his path from animal advocacy to spearheading global investigations into animal cruelty.

Growing up in a picturesque seaside town of Sussex, an area renowned for its natural beauty along the UK coastline, my love for animals was nurtured from an early age.

My childhood best friend, Blondie—a spirited and loyal dog—was by my side through countless adventures. Whether we were exploring the open green spaces in front of my home, sharing quiet moments on the sofa, or getting up to mischief, Blondie taught me the value of companionship and respect for all animals.

By my teenage years, this passion had blossomed into a commitment to animal advocacy. I became actively involved in monitoring fox hunts, capturing evidence of crimes against animals, and attending protests.

These early experiences solidified my determination to stand up for animals, but I quickly realised that real change would require more than passion. It would take strategy, professionalism, and relentless effort.

The Birth of Animal Welfare Investigations Project (AWIP): Jacob Lloyd and his Vision for Change

At just 18, I began working in investigations, specialising in covert operations. Over time, I recognised the need to professionalise investigations in the animal welfare sector. This realisation led to the founding of the Animal Welfare Investigations Project (AWIP) in 2021.

Initially, AWIP was established as a private investigation consultancy, designed to fund animal cruelty investigations. However, it became clear that juggling both projects wasn’t sustainable. I shifted my focus entirely to AWIP, transforming it into a dedicated organisation with a unique niche: using open-source intelligence (OSINT) and covert investigative expertise to combat animal cruelty. By collaborating with the OSINT and ethical hacking community, I introduced cutting-edge tools and strategies to a sector in dire need of innovation.

Making a Difference for Animals: Jacob Lloyd and the Global Impact

Since its inception, AWIP has achieved significant milestones in the fight against animal cruelty. Here are some of the highlights of our journey:

Filling the vans with dog and cat food for animals in Ukraine

Ukraine Crisis Response

In early 2022, as the war in Ukraine began, AWIP was one of the first organisations to respond.

I personally and regularly drove from the UK to Poland, Romania, and Ukraine, delivering vital supplies for animals affected by the conflict.

Through crowdfunding and grants, we raised and distributed tens of thousands of pounds, saving shelters from collapse and supporting local rescue efforts.

Operation Sun: Tackling the Dog Meat Trade

In the Philippines, AWIP partnered with local organisations to execute Operation Sun, a six-month investigation into the dog meat trade. I travelled to the Philippines to join for a day of action where we rescued several dogs and arrested two dog meat traders.

The result? Over eight traders were arrested, and 26 dogs were rescued.

Fighting the Illegal Puppy Trade

Working with investigators in Poland, we exposed and dismantled illegal puppy markets and breeders that were shipping puppies to Britain.

These efforts led to several criminal convictions and the rescue of countless puppies, ensuring they were no longer exploited for profit.

Wildlife Trafficking Interventions

In 2023, AWIP collaborated with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to intercept wildlife traffickers, rescuing pangolins and turtles.

One operation alone saved 149 turtles destined for illegal trade—a testament to the impact of focused, collaborative efforts.

Dog Meat Trade Investigations

Building on earlier successes, we continued to work with the PNP to investigate and shut down slaughterhouses in the Philippines.

Few remain, and we are committed to closing them all.

Growing Movement of Supporters

AWIP’s work has inspired over 111,875 supporters, with more joining every day. Together, we have:

  • Signed petitions demanding maximum penalties for animal cruelty.
  • Crowdfunded vital rescue missions.
  • Campaigned for the establishment of an Animal Offenders Register, gathering over 180,000 signatures.

Our supporters are the lifeblood of this movement, amplifying our voice and driving change for animals.

Photography, Wildlife, and Personal Connections

When I’m not working on AWIP, you’ll find me with a camera in hand, capturing the beauty of wildlife or enjoying quiet moments with my dogs and horses.

These personal passions deepen my commitment to protecting animals and remind me why this work matters.

Facing Criticism with Resolve

Bold action often attracts criticism, and I’m no stranger to it. However, those who oppose us wouldn’t target AWIP if we weren’t effective.

Our independence allows us to serve a singular mission: to fight for animals. We take a stand where others won’t, advocating for an animal-first agenda that prioritises their lives and wellbeing above all else.

Looking Ahead: A Commitment to Animals

The journey from Sussex to leading global investigations has been one of growth, learning, and unwavering determination. A lot of failures and youthful mistakes too! But, AWIP’s successes are a testament to the collective power of innovation, dedication, and a shared passion for animal welfare.

While there is still much work to be done, I am confident that together, we can create a world where no animal suffers needlessly.
